FLEMINGTON – The 2015 NJ SUPERHERO WEEKEND (formerly WONDER WOMAN DAY) will be hosted by Comic Fusion on October 3-4 in Flemington’s Turntable Junction shopping village. Comic Fusion will auction comic book themed sketches to raise money and awareness for CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW), a charitable organization which provides advocates in court for children living in the foster care system. We’ll have some prix fixe prints and raffles of prints, books and more.

Since 2007, Comic Fusion has raised close to $50,000 for other charities. This has been made possible by tremendous volunteers and companies such as DC Comics, Oni Press, Gov’t Comics, Periscope Studios, Vices Press and many talented comic book creators who donate their work to us each year.

The art sketches are auctioned with bids taken via email and in person at Comic Fusion. There are also raffles and door prizes. This year, the auction will end online bidding at midnight on Friday, Oct 2nd, and in-store bidding on Saturday, Oct 3rd at 5PM. Raffles will be drawn on Sunday, Oct 4th.

“Super Hero Weekend is all about helping our community and creating Super Heroes in our community! We are excited to partner with CASA SHaW and look forward to our best event ever!” said Stacy Korn, Co-Owner of Comic Fusion and event organizer.

This is our first year working with CASA-SHaW and it’s an exciting time to introduce our fanbase to such a caring organization,” said Amber Love, volunteer coordinator at Comic Fusion.

ART GUIDELINES FOR SKETCHES & PUBLISHED MATERIALS:

  • Superhero Weekend for Court Appointed Special Advocates for the foster care system.
  • Need the scans of them by Sept 5th to be included on the official Comic Fusion website; actual sketches by September 19th.
  • No larger than 11×17
  • Based on past auctions: Inked sells better than pencil, color sells better than inked.
  • More than one character tends to get more bidders.
  • Characters cannot be depicted as sexualized, gratuitous, in a violent act, or in skimpy costumes. Regardless of what we the comics industry is used to, the sketches must be family-friendly. Feel free to email us and ask about your idea.
  • Be sure to include all your contact information!

WHAT CHARACTERS:

Although we were founded as a Wonder Woman Day celebration originally, our market base to reach bidders required us to expand in order to do what’s best to raise the most possible for the charity.

Mainstream superheroes or characters that most people will recognize like Fantastic Four, Justice League, X-Men, Birds of Prey, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Firefly. Couples/groups work great like Black Canary and Green Arrow, The Question and Batwoman, The Spiderverse, Lois and Superman, etc.

COSPLAY GUIDELINES:

  • No working weapons.
  • Nothing horror/scary.
  • Nothing too skimpy or revealing.
  • Characters should be family-friendly.
  • We prefer to not have duplicates of characters since this is a small store event (unless it makes sense like multiple Stormtroopers).

  1. You know I’ve been obsessed with so many comic cons and yet I never realize that jersey cons can be much fun too. I hope someday if I’m really up to it that I go to the superhero weekend or something like that or a con right here in the garden state. Thanks amber for making me a true “jersey” guy.

    • Garden State Comic Fest was excellent. Kate really loved Atlantic City’s new show. There’s definitely a lot more here in NJ than last year. Plus there’s also a show in Newark in the fall.
