2025 Favorite Things: TV & Limited Series

My favorites are in bold. Note: Just because I watched something in 2025 does not mean it came out this year.

TV/Limited Series:

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Emma Myers, Zain Iqbal Netflix Very suspenseful, cliffhangers even within each episode. The dog dies in episode 5.
Adolescence Owen Coopers Stephen Graham, Christine Tremarco Netflix Miniseries about a 13 year old boy accused of murdering a girl who bullied him for being an incel after a different boy circulated a topless photo of her. The family struggles to endure. There’s not much mystery, as by ep 3, Jamie displays extreme aggression to a female psychologist at the prison. The soundtrack has an interesting theme of high-pitch angelic voices including a children’s choir and singer Aurora. Her song ends the show as the father breaks down wondering he’s to blame for how his son turned out despite having a confident, well-adjusted daughter too. It leaves the characters wondering whether the marriage will be able to last and if their community will ever stop connecting them to the horrors of their son.
Alex Cross Aldis Hodge Prime I love Aldis Hodge in the role. There are 2 different stories. the serial killer story was out front. The B story was more surprising and deeply layered.
Apple Cider Vinegar Kaitlyn Dever, Alycia Debnam-Carey; Directed by Jeffrey Walker Netflix 6 part miniseries based on Belle Gibson’s fraud and scams of Munchausen Syndrome which led her to start a wellness business and strike it rich & famous. Never finished.
Ballard Maggie Q Prime Loved it. Surprise ending to set up S2.
Bob’s Burgers H. Jon Benjamin, Kristen Schaal, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman Hulu There’s only been two episodes I routinely skip out of 16 seasons (the one with the butt worms and the fetal pig lab). My daily life frequently comes down to me saying, “Just like on Bob’s Burgers.”
Haunted Hotel Eliza Coupe, Will Forte, Jimmi Simpson, Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides Netflix Excellent cast and fun premise.
Missing You Rosalind Eleazar, Richard Armitage, Ashley Walters, Mary Malone, Jessica Plummer Netflix limited series based on Harlan Coben story; a 6-degrees-of-separation drama & double crime mysteries woven together. The intricate and convoluted connections of main character DI Kat Donovan finds a missing persons case that ties back to the 2 most important men in her life: her dead father and runaway fiancé.
Tacoma FD Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme Netflix Recommended by a friend to fill the void after Brooklyn 99; a good choice.
The Bear Jeremy Allen White Hulu I tried a couple episodes and didn’t get addicted like other people do. The family drama is stressful.
The Great North Nick Offerman, Nick Forte, Jenny Slate Hulu Always a favorite; wildly surreal for this Alaskan family
The Residence Uzo Adubo, Randall Park Netflix Shondland creates a Sherlock Holmes/Poirot style with the Knives Out aesthetics set in the White House during a State Dinner. I absolutely NEED MORE of Cordelia and Agent Park!
The Rookie Nathan Fillion, Eric Winter Hulu Still in it for Chen and Bradford
Wayward Mae Martin, Toni Colette, Sarah Gadon Netflix Mae Martin created a show that feels paranormal yet is wholly real concerning abusive cult places like conversion camps. It’s addictive. Finale is ripe for another season.
Wednesday Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luiz Guzman Netflix I loved the guest stars in the latest season. The Dead Dance should 100% replace MJ’s Thriller. So mote it be.
