OH NO I FORGOT TO POST THIS APRIL 30TH!

Pet Partners is the founder of National Therapy Animal Day.

National Therapy Animal Day was created by Pet Partners to recognize all of the exceptional therapy animals who partner with their human companions to bring comfort and healing to those in need. Therapy animals and their handlers can be found helping people of all ages in a variety of different settings including hospitals, pediatric care units, schools, and nursing homes.

Goals of National Therapy Animal Day:

  • Recognize and honor therapy animals
  • Raise awareness and educate the public about the role therapy animals play in enhancing the health and well being of humans
  • Honor the thousands of dedicated handlers (the human members of therapy animal teams) who volunteer their time and compassion during visits

What can I do?

  • Join us in raising awareness on National Therapy Animal Day by participating in Treats & Sweets Day during the month of April.
  • Work with your local mayor or city manager to have  April 30th officially proclaimed Therapy Animal Day in your hometown!  Here is a sample proclamation (PDF file).

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS:

Emotional Support Animals don’t do tasks like other therapy animals. They are kept as companions to help with cases of emotional distress, trauma, phobias, and a variety of reasons. Dogs are still most popular, followed by horses, but cats and other animals are included too. To have a cat certified, they have to meet requirements just like every other animal. It takes a special cat with patience, tolerance, and lots of love in their heart. Cats are particularly great for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia according to Purina’s Petcentric site.
