VODKA O’CLOCK 1440:

#NaNoWriMo, Conventions, My Favorite Comics of the Year

AMBER LOVE 28-NOV-2014 This is a unique episode of VODKA O’CLOCK for you. It’s a solo host epsiode, about a half hour long. I spend a bit of time talking about my participation in NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month. Then I go all into the things I’ve loved reading this year.

The bulk of the show is going through my list of favorite female lead comics for the year including reprinted comics and some brand new series. I already a full post about all of those so no need to detail them here.

I gave a recap of Exxxotica which was my last convention of the year to attend. I have a ton of pictures posted in my long written recap of it.

I hope you had a safe Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I am still in my routine of spending hours every day at my desk at home, usually writing. I have some other projects to work on so the NaNoWriMo manuscript is back burner but not abandoned. I wrote over 1,000 words on it yesterday. I need to get through some comic work though and a costume for a special friend who that gets to be my personal Barbie doll once in a while.

Since I think the NaNoWriMo website gets basically turned off after the challenge, I will continue posting periodic updates about my progress. I do hope this doesn’t take several years to see the light of day. In fact, I’m more interested in self-publishing it on Kindle as I did the memoir. I read about the incredible amount of time it takes to query agents and I am far too impatient for that process. I want to get there some day. I don’t know when that day will be.

I think the process of being an author has changed drastically. Now you don’t get a publisher at all without being represented by an agent. You need to have already paid out of pocket for your own editors and then if you do get to the point of having a publisher, you probably have to rewrite again despite what you’ve already gone through. It sounds like superfluous steps in order for a publisher to have their mark on a book in some way. I have to hire my own editor then I publish on my own too, I’ll do it if that’s what it takes to get my work out there. The gravitas of a name brand publisher would be ideal but I’m not holding my breath nor going to make my mental state sicker through a querying process that takes years.
