featurebanner_skywardcover_interviewAMBER LOVE 24-MAY-2014 One of the best people in the world comes back to VODKA O’CLOCK so please give a hearty welcome to JAMAL IGLE, Marketing Director at Action Lab Entertainment. Actually he does so many different things that there simply isn’t one job title for him. Tweet your feedback or you can do so at any of the platforms where the show is hosted. Every emotion is covered in this episode from our look back at the connections we’ve made through Comic Geek Speak and Wild Pig Comics to the joy in the success of Action Lab.

awesomecon (9)Jamal and I talk about all the shows on his convention tour and some of the stops where I’ll be. I’ll be at the inaugural Special Edition of New York Comic Con which is just the Artists’ Alley of the massive October show. We really manage to get into some good chatter about the presence of publishers at shows and using DC’s strange failure at last year’s NYCC as an example. When you see Jamal at a show, he’s extremely outgoing and easy to talk to which is funny because he says there are moments when he’s incredibly shy and quiet.

He opened up in a comfortable way about the culture shock of moving from New York to California to follow his creative dreams. He came back to New York and had years of life working out of his home where it’s isolated. There’s the shock of food, attitude, culture and of course driving. Ah, I do love discussing driving differences between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Everyone is so passionate about NJ’s traffic circles and no left turns.

Action Lab title announcements to watch out for: HERO CATS, BO PLUSHY GANGSTA, SKYWARD, FRACTURE, JACK HAMMER, FINAL PLAGUE, SCUM OF THE EARTH, ITTY BITTY BUNNIES IN RAINBOW CANDY LAND, VAMPLETS, ZOMBIE TRAMP, SHINOBI NINJA PRINCESS, MOLLY DANGER, and there’s always more being announced.

New to the lineup is SOFT SPOTS, a Norwegian toy project tie-in that will have a Toys R Us exclusive for six months before making it into Diamond. The marketing of the line is bold and huge. There will be commercials aired. All this shows how the little start up Action Lab has grown from a group of creators that were friends coming together and launching a label as a serious competitor that can proudly stand up there with the likes of IDW, Boom! Studios, and Dynamite Entertainment.

We wrap up by discussing the importance of networking with supportive people at your level and “above” (further along in their careers).
