Ashley Neuhaus 14-NOV-2012 After the devastation caused by “Superstorm” Sandy up and down the east coast, I was worried that this year’s EXXXOTICA would be canceled. Much to my happiness, the show was still scheduled to carry on and they even assisted in the relief efforts by collecting supplies and necessities to send to families in need. There were also several girls walking around with collection buckets and dancing on the poles with them. So a big thank you to the coordinators of the show for still holding the event and for helping those affected by Sandy.

This was my first experience attending a show like this. The shows I typically attend have been limited to comic conventions but I’m always looking to expand my horizons and go to new types of shows. I think I was expecting some great and exciting time and left feeling somewhat disappointed. That’s not to say I didn’t have a good time because I did, despite there being some not so great moments.

STOYA

One of the seminars I really wanted to attend was “Fat F*ck, Skinny F*ck, So What? Everybody F*cks!” but that was on Friday night and we only attended Saturday. So with that off the table, the only thing I was really looking forward to seeing was Stoya’s aerial ring performance. I’m a huge fan of Stoya and it was a pleasure to see her perform. I was basically watching the routine through the lens of my camera but even so, I could see the immense control she has over her body. Looking at the pictures later on, I was truly stunned by her muscle tone and the positions she could get her body in to.

Some of the other things we saw that day included a Q&A panel with mostly current porn stars and a couple retired ones. It was a mediocre panel filled with less than riveting questions. The only one that didn’t seem like a “typical” question was when someone asked about Ballot Measure B in California which I was actually unfamiliar with until that moment. I would have liked to have seen more than just one male on the panel though. Marcus London, who’s appeared in over 120 films, was the only male on the panel and while he was lovely to look at and hear speak, I would’ve liked more than just one male perspective to some of the questions.

2/3 OF THE AUSTRALIAN BADBOYS

We also watched a performance by the Australian Badboys, an all-male stripper troupe from the land down under. The main guy that was spotlighted and had a solo was a bit disappointing. He was nice to look at but he just did the same moves over and over again. As someone who was a dancer for 12 years, I found this quite boring and he didn’t really hold my attention. We also saw the Rigor Mortis Revue perform some of their burlesque acts. If you’re in the Philly area and you can catch a show of theirs, I definitely recommend it.

We didn’t meet too many of the talent that was at the show. We chatted with Lexi Belle for a bit which was awesome because she is just absolutely precious and sweet as can be. Then we walked over a couple more booths and talked with Tori Black for a minute who was a little less personable but just as beautiful in person as she is on screen. The one who I was most excited to meet was Joanna Angel of the Burning Angel empire. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while and so it was great to finally meet her. Ms. Angel was extremely nice and gave me a hug after we snapped a picture together. She even signed my DVD with the words “fuck me” on it. Oh if only I could!

ME WITH JOANNA ANGEL

Much to the surprise of probably everyone reading this, I walked into the show wearing normal clothes. Yes, that includes PANTS. Early in the day we saw the Liquid Latex booth and while Amber was looking at the product, I was watching one of the models getting painted which I would later see finished as Batgirl. I asssumed they were only painting models but later in the day we saw the guys from Transformational Bodypainting working on civilians. We decided to get painted ourselves because as all the cool youngsters say, YOLO!

For me, this was a big thing. It was my first time being painted in any regard and also, the first time I’d be taking off my top in public. Yes, I know I’ve put my boobs on Twitter but this was different. I couldn’t decided between Wonder Woman or Batwoman once Amber chose to go with Rogue. With my phone’s battery at only 15% and awful reception, I managed to post the question to Twitter and got a couple responses saying to for Wonder Woman. So I did. It took about an hour or so for us be transformed. While getting painted, I had one guy stop and ASK if he could take a picture. It was a small thing but it was something that will stick with me because everyone else was just snapping pictures left and right.

While walking around after getting painted, we were suddenly visible again! Other than one guy that blatantly pointed his camera at our breasts, most of the people who asked for pictures were nice. The only real incident that has really stayed with me was when Amber and I were resting in the “VIP” section, which was a small roped off section with some tables, a couple stripper poles, and a fountain. Some guy came up and said the paint looked cool and asked me if he could “touch it.” I said sure and he immediately stuck his index finger out and moved in to poke my nipple. I watched, stunned, as his finger approached my painted nipple. Instead of grabbing his hand and breaking it, I just slowly backed away. Words weren’t working for me but I managed to get out an “uhhhh” and so he moved his finger upwards and poked about an inch or two above my nipple. Then he walked away.

BEFORE AND AFTER

I am severely disappointed in myself for not reacting and handling the situation better. I like to think of myself as a tough girl who can take care of herself. I’ve talked to a few friends about this since then and one of them asked, “well what did you expect at a con like that?” And to be honest, I expected creeps and ogling guys. Hell, I was even ogling at times because it’s hard not to when there’s gorgeous women dancing mostly naked on poles. But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be upset for not being able to stand up for myself. I guess it’s too much to ask for decency and respect from people.

We only briefly walked through the display of cars and had a couple guys ask us to stand with their cars for pictures. Two guys who were nice and from Virginia chatted us up and asked if we were going to the after party. We politely said no because we didn’t feel like traveling all the way to NYC for the party. One of them had said there was going to be a party at the Sheraton right down the block but the good party was going to be at the Sapphire Club in NYC. I understand that NYC is the place to party and especially with this particular crowd but there’s a gentlemen’s club only a few minutes away, and guess what? That club was one of the sponsors of the show! We said goodbye to those guys and finished looking at the cars, hopped up on a pole for a couple of photos and left the show when it closed at 10 pm.

Exxxotica has plans to return to NJ in April but this time to Atlantic City at the Trump Taj Mahal. Hopefully those plans are still on despite the city being pretty much washed away thanks to Sandy and I have a better experience or at least be better prepared and able to handle any unpleasant situations that may arise.
